How to Make Chocolate Whoopie Pies

A long time ago (like when Zoe was a baby), my mom made whoopie pies. I don't really remember how I felt about them back then (I probably liked them!), but the memory of the whoopie pies made me want to bake them with my mom. So, we googled to find a recipe and came across a Cook's Country recipe on another blog. (Cook's Country is an offshoot of Cook's Illustrated.) We followed the directions exactly, and whoa. Almost Flourless Chocolate Cake

We saw this recipe on Modern Mrs. Darcy, and it looked so easy, we decided to give it a try!  It makes a very, very dark and dense chocolate cake, so if you prefer milk chocolate, you probably won't like this. So, we asked her for the recipe so we could make a Lazy Daisy cake here at home. The coconut/brown sugar frosting is the very best … [Read more...]

Chocolate Chai Mini Loaves

We love to drink chai, so this recipe sounded interesting to us because the batter has chai mix in it and so does the frosting.  We used the homemade chai mix from my mom's blog, but you can also buy a mix from the store. Surprisingly, the loaves don't taste much like chai, probably because of the chocolate.  But they certainly are good! The frosting is yummy and the loaves are really moist.  They're actually more like cake than bread, so we ate slices for dessert. Here's how to … [Read more...]
